The University of North Carolina 18 Şubat 1891’de kurulmuş, North Carolina, Greensboro’da yer alan öğrenci merkezli bir kamu araştırma üniversitesidir. Eyaletin coğrafi merkezinin yakınında bulunan Greensboro şehri yeni kurumun yeri için seçilmiştir. North Carolina, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nin güneydoğu bölgesinde yer alan bir eyalettir ve 50 eyalet içerisindeki 28.büyük, 9.en kalabalık eyaletidir. Eyaletin kuzeyinde Virginia, doğusunda Atlantik okyanusu, güneyinde Georgia ve South Carolina ve batıda Tennessee yer almaktadır. Eyaletin başkenti Rakeigh’tir ve en büyük şehri Charlotte’dur. Kültürel anlamda gelişmiş bir eyalet olan North Carolina; Raleigh, Greensboro ve Charlotte şehirlerin senfoni orkestralarına, opera topluluklarına sahiptir ve birçok tarihi müzeye sahiptir. Eyalette orman ve tarihin alanın yanında 60’tan fazla devlet parkı bulunmaktadır.
UNCG, Güney Kolejler ve Okullar Birliği Koleji tarafından lisans, master ve doktora dereceleri vermek üzere akredite edilmiştir. ABD Haber ve Dünya Raporu, 2020 sıralamasında UNC Greensboro tüm ulusal üniversiteler arasında 272.sırada yer almaktadır, “En iyi Devlet Okulları” sıralamasında 135.sıradadır ve “Sosyal Hareketlilik Konusunda En iyi Performans Gösterenler” sıralamasında 27.sıradadır.
20.000’den fazla öğrenci, 3.000 fakülte ve personeliyle UNC Greensboro Piedmont Triad’daki en büyük devlet üniversitesidir. Yıllık ekonomik etkisi 1 milyar dolardan fazladır. Kampüs 250 dönümlük 30 rezidans salonu ve 27 akademik binayı kapsayacak şekilde büyümüştür.
